OUR MISSION

We began our work back in 1979 and have developed our services over the years to help all homeless people by providing advice, assistance and advocacy to help them find secure, safe and affordable accommodation.

Working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council, the Welsh Government, and other third sector organisations, we are now helping over 2000 people every single year.

NEW HEAD OFFICE

In May of 2022 we moved to 7 Picton Place in Haverfordwest.

As our team continued to grow and we expanded the range of services we offered, it was time for a bigger headquarters.

The new office has ample space for our whole team, offers a prime location for Pathway Lettings on the ground floor, and private rooms upstairs for mental health counselling.

The more prominent location in the town also means more people who are experiencing homelessness are aware of the help we offer.

We are currently renovating our former head office in Market St, Haverfordwest.

Soon we’ll have four bedsits available and on-site counselling services.

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE WCVA

Important financial support has helped us grow. The Community Asset Development Fund allowed us to buy our new town centre offices.

The Social Business Growth Funding provided financial support for the appointment of a number of staff, including a HR Manager, Project Manager, Marketing and Fundraising Officers, a Plumber and an Electrician.

OUR STORY

PATH began in 1978 by community figures who wanted to help those who were struggling.

At this time, local businesses were vital to helping the organisation. For example, Lloyds Bank offered a free banking service and Tenby Press provided logo and stationary.

Additional help was also provided by the headmaster of Greenhill School, Manager of the Esso refinery, and the head of the catering department at Pembrokeshire College.

 

‘’Big oaks from little acorns grow’’

The initial plan was to raise £1,000 through wine and cheese nights, but the organisation also received donations from Lloyds Bank, Esso Oil, Merthyr Trust, and food vouchers from Tesco and Co-op.

The project began with one part timer (Libby Burns) who was provided with a clipboard, a few sheets of paper, a biro, and what passed for a mobile phone in those "far off days."

 

THE HOUSING PROBLEM

The problem back then was very similar to the situation today. 

Landlords required bonds, was difficult to afford at the time (£20, equating to around £250 per person today). The money used for the bond was only repaid if no damage was done to properties, and it was returned to the Bond Fund. However, landlords kept claiming ‘’damage’.

This caused a shortage of cash and was resolved by starting an inventory of new tenants and keeping pictures of the flat when the tenants moved in.

Originally it started with single people and couples, but soon became increasingly difficult when incorporating families. As the years went by, the organisation developed more experience in helping families successfully into accommodation.
